Disc Golf Approach Shot Tips

In the game of disc golf, there are three basic shots. There is the drive, the putt, and the approach shot. Each of these must be mastered in order to play better. One of the most important shots is the approach shot. It can make up for a bad or short drive. It can get your closer so that you can make easier putts. There are things that you can do that will help you do better on your approach shots.

The first thing that you can do is get out there and practice. Drive with one disc and go to that spot to do your next shot. Instead of just throwing once, use two or three other discs so that you can practice from that spot. Watch where the first disc lands and try to adjust a bit until you can land near the basket like you should.

Work on your angles. Some shots you will need to turn your disc up or point it down in order for it to go left or right in order to hit your target better. Learn these angles so that you can use them as needed.

Learn the different shots that you can use that will help with approach shots. The backhand is useful, but sometimes it can't be used. Learn your side arm shot for when your backhand won't work at all from where you are. Throw overhand to help you get over objects that are in your way. Sometimes you can even throw when the disc is upside down so that you can get it to land where you want it. Also work on your roller shots where the disc will roll towards the basket and stop.

Use the right disc for the right situation. Sometimes approach shots are done best with stable discs that are a bit heavier. These don't go as far as a driver but will go much straighter. As you improve you can sometimes make putts from longer distances with your approach shot since the disc goes straight.
